Gingivitis usually occurs as a result of inadequate oral and dental care. In addition, malnutrition and some existing diseases can also cause gingivitis. One of the main causes of tooth loss is gingivitis. Small inflammation may not cause discomfort, but as inflammation develops, speech, chewing and eating functions may be difficult. Inflammation of the gums can also be a sign of other diseases besides oral and dental health. Therefore, it should not be ignored.

What are the Symptoms of Gum Inflammation?

Inflammation in the teeth may not be noticed at the initial level. Even if there are no symptoms, some people may still have inflammation of the gums. As the size of the inflammation increases, some symptoms appear. Gingivitis can reduce the quality of life from the moment it starts to show symptoms. Therefore, when one or more of the following symptoms are felt, measures should be taken immediately. The symptoms of gingivitis are as follows;

  • Redness, swelling and tenderness of the gums
  • Bleeding during dental cleaning
  • recession in gums
  • Loosening and swaying of teeth caused by advanced gingival recession
  • Bad breath
  • Sensitivity of teeth to cold and heat
  • Pain while talking and eating
What Causes Tooth Inflammation?

The most important cause of gingivitis is tartar formed on the teeth. The formation of tartar or tartar actually occurs in the long term. Different kinds of bacteria in the mouth combine with food particles if oral and dental care is not done correctly. Food particles combined with bacteria produce a dangerous acid that damages the structure of the teeth, which creates plaque. The resulting plaque has a sticky form at first and when the plaque is not cleaned in this state, it collects calcium and other minerals and takes on a hard structure that we call “tartar”. These tartars that form on the gums cause gingivitis. Unless this situation is taken under control, it will cause tooth inflammation to reach very advanced dimensions and cause different diseases. The most effective way to prevent tartar formation is to brush and floss at least twice a day.

In addition to lack of oral and dental care, some conditions can cause gingivitis. These;

  • Diabetes
  • Structural disorders and distortions in teeth
  • Genetic factors
  • Pregnancy process
  • Use of tobacco products

However, the data obtained as a result of long-term studies show that cholesterol-related negativities can cause gingivitis. It is stated that the resulting inflammation threatens oral and cardiovascular health. Both diseases have many common causes such as overweight, blood pressure, sedentary and irregular life, unhealthy diet. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to your oral and dental health and to have a healthy life routine in order to prevent both heart diseases and inflammation of the tongue.
