Hair loss is not the only type, so the source of hair loss can also change. Hair loss can be caused by internal or external reasons or it can be genetic. In general, the types of hair loss are;

  • Adrogenic Alopecia: This type of alopecia refers to inherited hair loss such as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. In addition, it is also called "Model Alopecia" because it can be seen in both men and women. Adrogenic Alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss. This type of hair loss is seen in more than 50% of men and women who complain of hair loss. Shedding occurs gradually; In some people, it occurs during adolescence, while in others, symptoms may not be noticed until middle age. 

    In female pattern baldness, thinning of the hair usually occurs on the entire scalp. Female pattern baldness usually occurs after the age of 65, but it can also occur earlier in some women. Male pattern baldness is the shedding that starts from the temples and continues from that area, eventually thinning on the top of the head and forming an "M" shape.

  • Alopecia Areata: Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition that causes the immune system to attack hair follicles, creating regional baldness that can vary in size from small to large. In some cases, the hair may fall out completely. In addition to hair loss, in the case of Alopecia Areata, people may shed their eyebrows, eyelashes or hair in certain parts of the body.

  • Anagen Effluvium: due to radiation therapy or chemotherapy is the rapid loss of hair. After the treatment, the hair mostly grows back to its original state.
     
  • Telogen Effluvium : Sudden hair loss caused by a physical or emotional change, such as a traumatic event, periods of extreme stress, or a serious illness. It can also occur due to conditions that cause hormonal changes such as birth, menopause, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. In addition to these, potential conditions that can cause Telogen Effluvium include;
  1. Vitamin and mineral deficiency, malnutrition
  2. Some endocrine disorders
  3. birth control pills
  4. receiving anesthesia
  5. Acute illnesses or serious viral infections such as Covid-19
  • Tinea Capitis: Tinea Capitis, also called scalp ringworm, is a fungal infection that can affect the scalp and hair shaft. It causes scaly and itchy small and regional baldness. Over time, regional baldness will grow in size and fill with pus if not treated early Symptoms of Tinea Capitis include brittle hair, scalp tenderness, patches of scaly skin, and skin rashes. It can be treated with antifungal drugs.
  • Traction Alopecia: Traction Alopecia is most often caused by styling the hair in a taut state, such as a ponytail, braid, or bun. Shedding occurs due to excessive tension and pressure on the hair.
