Teeth Whitening

It is the bleaching of colored organic and inorganic substances formed due to physiological and pathological reasons in the porous dentin and enamel structure on the tooth surface by chemical methods. Especially discoloration of the anterior teeth can cause self-confidence problems and aesthetic concerns. Modern dentistry also aims to protect individuals' natural dental aesthetics. For this reason, teeth whitening bleaching process is applied by specialist dentists.

What are the Teeth Whitening Methods?

Bleaching can be done with two basic methods. One of them is office type and the other is home type teeth whitening. There are also cases where both bleaching methods are applied.

  • For the home bleaching method, intraoral impressions are taken and personalized plaques are prepared. A certain amount of whitening gel is put into these plates and the plate is used for an average of 4-6 hours during the day. This process is continued for about 10 days to two weeks. The important thing is that it stays on the teeth for 4-6 hours. The most important point to be considered in the home method is to use the product recommended by the dentist in the right proportions. When tooth gels are applied too much and come into contact with the gums, they can damage the gums.
  • Office type whitening method; whitening in a clinical setting. It is based on laser teeth whitening. The application is made by the clinician. Before the procedure, the teeth are cleaned by the dentist. The mouth is prepared for the operation. The bleaching process, which takes an average of one hour, is performed by activating the whitening gel applied on the teeth with UV rays or laser.
  • Internal bleaching technique is applied for color changes observed after root canal treatment applied to the teeth. In this method, the aim is to make the targeted tooth look similar to other teeth. First, the filling in the tooth is removed. Whitening gel is applied to the gap created by the removed filling and the tooth is covered with a temporary filling. The sessions are repeated at 3-day intervals until the tooth is compatible with the other teeth.

What Should Be Considered After Teeth Whitening?

Drinks such as tea, cola, wine, coffee and tobacco products should be avoided during the whitening sessions and until a few days after the bleaching process.
